Keyboarding

We will be working hard on our keyboarding skills.  Learning the home row position and using correct typing technique is how we become good typists.  We need to train our finger muscles to automatically know where to go.  There are no secret tricks about typing.  The only way to become a good typist is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Keyboarding Tips and Rules

1.   Sit up straight with your feet on the floor.

2.   Use the correct finger to type each key.

3.   Do not look at your hands while typing.

4.   Keep home row fingers touching home row keys at all times.  Feel for the raised bars on the ‘F’ and ‘J’ keys with your index fingers.

The typing goals that we are striving for are:

     3rd Grade – 7 Words Per Minute

     4th Grade – 15 Words Per Minute

     5th Grade – 20 Words Per Minute

     6th Grade – 25 Words Per Minute

However, we will be concentrating on accuracy over speed this year.  The more the students practice the correct typing technique, the faster they will type.
