An input
device that lets you select and move items on your screen.

Icon
A small picture that
represents an item, such as a program.
Folder
Works like a file folder to keep files
or documents of similar types together.
Toolbar
Rows of buttons, often at the top of the
screen, that represent the most commonly used menu items. These are shortcuts to the menu commands.
Menu
A list of commands or
options from which you can choose.
RAM
Memory which stores
information temporarily inside a computer.
Scanner
A device that reads
images and text into a computer.
Ports
Connectors at the back
and front of a computer where you plug in an external device. This allows data to flow
between the computer and the device.
A high speed port
that allows information to quickly transfer between a computer and an external
device. It can support up to 127
devices, such as printers, mice, and external modems.
A portable storage
device used to store or transfer information.

labels each parallel port with the letters LPT.

This port has either 9 or 25 pins. It usually connects a moue or external
modem. The computer internally labels
each serial port with the letters COM.
The first serial port is names COM1, the second is COM2, and so on.
